MAY’S DAYS (Tuesday afternoons)

May’s Day was started back in the ‘70’s by May Blick and her name has been perpetuated every Tuesday during the summer season ever since.  Members wishing to play need to arrive before 2.15pm and Margaret Hatch will be happy to take your £1 for the game which includes tea and biscuits afterwards.  It is a game for bowlers of all abilities from beginners to the more experienced who feel they want some practice.

At the end of the season there are money prizes for the first three men and first three ladies.  Winners are decided by taking the aggregate of their eight best scores, so obviously the more times people play the better their chances of winning.

The top man and lady also get to compete against the top pair from the Friday Night “Tom Linscott” competition in a special final played on Finals Weekend.

LINSCOTT (Friday evenings)

This weekly get-together on a Friday evening was originally created almost 30 years ago by Tom Linscott, along with Frank Shaw and, as with our May’s Day, bowlers of all abilities are welcome.  Again, this is a great opportunity for our new members to get to know everyone.

The weekly event is now organised by Robert Knight and he will be pleased to see any club members wishing to take part before 6.15pm. It costs just £1 and after the match a fish and chip supper can be ordered and this is usually followed by our very popular meat raffle which is organised by Rita Salter.... and, of course, the bar is open!

The format is similar to May’s Day in that at the end of the season the winning lady and winning man (top aggregate eight scores) play a doubles match against the May’s Day winners, on Finals Weekend.
